Sugar syrups have been a staple ingredient that bakeries have used on cakes, however, most home bakers are not aware of exactly what it is. Sugar syrup improves your cake in two ways, the first, it adds flavor, and second, it moisturizes it. Which makes the addition of the syrup to further enhance your cake.
The best part of it all is that it is easy to make. With basic techniques and just two ingredients, you can easily make sugar syrup. You even have the option to flavor the syrup from vanilla to coffee. With that said, here is our ultimate guide to sugary syrup for cakes.
Ingredients
2 cups of hot water
2 cups of sugar
In a Cuisinart saucepan, add all the water and sugar. Place the saucepan on a stove on medium-high heat.
Stir the sugar in the water, continue to stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Once dissolved, allow the water to boil. Most the sugar crystals should be gone, however, if you still notice them you can brush them off with a pastry brush.
Remove the saucepan from the heat once the sugar has completely dissolved and let the syrup cool off.
Application
Once the syrup is cool, you can apply it on the cake with a clean pastry brush. We recommend applying to each layer of the cake so the taste is evenly spread in each bite of the cake.
You can store the syrup for a few months if you keep it refrigerated in an airtight container. You can also add flavor to the syrup by add flavor extract or fruit extracts to make it in any flavor that you may want. You can do this after the syrup is made.
